AKKS Trondheim
AKKS Trondheim - AKKS is an idealistic music organization whose aim is to recruit, motivate and expose women at all stages of musical activity. AKKS fights for gender equality and balance in the Norwegian music industry. It especially supports girls and women, but also anyone who wants to try their hand at music - regardless of gender identity, age, religion and ethnicity. AKKS is for all those who care about equality, diversity and music.
AKKS was founded in Blitz, Oslo in 1982 and was an initiative that grew out of the Kalvøya Women's Culture Festival in 1979.
When the festival made a profit of NOK 80,000, it was decided that it would be used to create a Center for Active Women's Culture (AKKS) focusing on education - only for women.
The lack of female role models was central to the center's ideology and provided fertile ground for what became the organization we now call simply AKKS.
Much has changed since its inception in 1982. In 2000, the AKKS offer opened up to boys and men and they became a children's and youth organization. The letters AKKS ceased to be an acronym and became something about our work: Active – Competent – Creative – Unifying.
Nevertheless, the goal of "recruiting, motivating and exposing women in all parts of the music scene" is still needed.
Today, AKKS has branches in Bergen, Kristiansand, Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim and Nord-Norway that run music courses for all genders. AKKS teaches how to play in bands, on various instruments, sing, DJ, write songs, produce music and many other games.
They organize concerts and various musical events throughout the year.
AKKSalso provides music rooms and music equipment rentals for all their members.
